Daniel Zhang

Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Alibaba Group

Daniel Zhang became Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group in September 2019 and Chief Executive Officer in May 2015. He is a founding member of the Alibaba Partnership.

Over the past 12 years, Daniel has spearheaded innovation and growth across Alibaba. Soon after joining as Chief Financial Officer of Taobao Marketplace in 2007, Daniel took on the additional role of General Manager of Taobao Mall and became President of the B2C platform when it was rebranded as Tmall.com in 2011. As Chief Operating Officer of Alibaba Group, Daniel guided the company’s successful transition to a “mobile-first” ecosystem. He also led important strategic investments into Sun Art Retail Group, Lazada Group, Youku Tudou, Ele.me, Haier, Intime Retail and Kaola. He also led the establishment of logistic platform Cainiao Network and has served as its chairman since 2018.

Daniel was the mastermind behind Alibaba’s annual “11.11 Global Shopping Festival” on November 11, which has matured into the world’s biggest shopping day and laboratory for the future of retail. He is also the chief architect of Alibaba’s New Retail strategy and Alibaba Business Operating System, which aims to redefine the consumer retail landscape through innovation of new retail formats and help global businesses find success in digital transformation respectively.

Daniel has been a director of NYSE-listed Weibo since May 2014 and Chairman of HKSE-listed Sun Art Retail Group since January 2018. He is a member of the WEF International Business Council, and the Vice Co-Chair of the Board of the Consumer Goods Forum.

Before joining Alibaba, Daniel served as Chief Financial Officer of Shanda Interactive Entertainment Limited, an online game developer and operator then listed on NASDAQ. Prior to that he was a senior manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Audit and Business Advisory Division in Shanghai.

Alex Fong

Alex Fong Lik-Sun is a Hong Kong actor, singer and a former Olympic swimmer. Alex graduated in the University of Hong Kong majored in Accounting and Finance (BBA). Alex, a strong-willed former Hong Kong athlete, owned nine Hong Kong swimming records. Have been retired for almost 15 years, he is still the HK record holder of the 200-meter backstroke and the 400-meter individual medley which the record was broken by him in 2000 Sydney Olympics. He enter the entertainment business at 2001. In 2014, he was awarded as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Hong Kong. In 2018, Alex set up his own swimming school, hoping to bring out positive message through swimming: Swim With Integrity and Meaning. Last year, he has completed ‘Alex Fong Swims Around Hong Kong Charity” and raised up to 10 million donation for providing clean water to 450,000 needy who lack of water.

Alfred Chuang

Recognized by Andressen Horowitz as the Silicon Valley CEO’s CEO, Alfred Chuang an accomplished entrepreneur, venture investor, and company advisor.

Known for being the co-founder of BEA Systems, Alfred became CEO in 2001 and lead BEA Systems to its acquisition by Oracle for $8.6 billion. Alfred is also the founder and Chairman at Magnet Systems, a mobile application server software company.

Alfred began venture investing in 2008 and over the past decade, his portfolio grew from a handful of small startups to over 100 companies including some of the most iconic Silicon Valley technology companies.

Prior to founding BEA, Chuang held many senior executive positions at Sun Microsystems including in the critical areas of software product development, network infrastructure, systems architecture, and operations management. He was also the founder of the Computer Resources Center for Sun Intercontinental Operations, which he helped establish key subsidiaries in Asia. Alfred was also director of the strategic systems group in Sun's Information Resources Organization, and finally corporate director and chief scientist of Sun Integration Services.

Alfred also loves education and dedicates his time and energy as advisor and board member at the University of San Francisco School of Engineering 2020, UC Davis Chancellor Advisory Board, UC Davis School of Engineering Dean’s Committee, School of Business Dean’s Committee at City University of Hong Kong, and School of Engineering Industrial Advisory Committee at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

Alfred receive numerous awards including C/F Silicon Valley Philanthropist of the Year, SD Forum Visionary Award, CIO Magazine 20/20 Vision Award Honoree and Community Star from Asian Americans for Community Involvement, eChina Forum Silicon Valley Award Honoree, and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist, University of San Francisco President’s Ambassador, UC Davis Outstanding Alumnus Award, and UC Davis Distinguished Engineering Alumni Medal.

Alfred received a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of San Francisco and a Master in Computer Science with an emphasis on distributed data management from the University of California, Davis. He is also a proud graduate of Wah Yan College, Hong Kong.

Charles Li

Charles Li has served as Chief Executive of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) since 2010. In this role, Mr. Li has orchestrated some of the most significant strategic initiatives in HKEX’s history, including the acquisition of the London Metal Exchange in 2012, the launch of OTC Clear in 2013, and the introduction of Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect in 2014, Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect in 2016, and Bond Connect in 2017. He has sought to strengthen Hong Kong’s role as an offshore Renminbi hub and led HKEX’s efforts to reform its listing regime to maintain Hong Kong’s competitiveness and secure its position as a leading IPO centre.

Mr. Li was born in Beijing and grew up in Gansu. Before leaving China for further study, Mr. Li was an offshore oil worker in the North China Sea and then an editor-reporter for China Daily. After completing his Juris Doctor (JD) degree in the US, Mr. Li practiced law in New York with Davis Polk & Wardwell and Brown & Wood. Before joining HKEX, he was Chairman of JP Morgan China, prior to which he was President of Merrill Lynch China.

Mr. Li obtained a BA degree in English literature from Xiamen University in 1984, an MA degree in journalism from the University of Alabama in 1988, and a JD degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1991.

Christelle Kwizera

Christelle Kwizera, 26, is a Rwandan mechanical engineer and social entrepreneur. In 2014, Christelle founded Water Access Rwanda, an award-winning, innovative social enterprise offering tailor-made solutions in the field of collection, distribution and purification of water. The enterprise has provided water to over 159,000 Rwandans through a network of 95 boreholes and INUMA™ purified clean water microgrids. Water Access Rwanda is the only Rwandan enterprise to ever be awarded the prestigious Africa Entrepreneurship Award and the company is recognized as an SDG innovator by the UNSDSN. Recently Christelle emerged 3rd on the inaugural Africa Netpreneur Prize where Jack Ma, Strive Masiyiwa, Ibukun Awosika and Joe Tsai selected amongst 10 finalists, the top 3 African business heroes. Christelle is recognized as a transformer by the Islamic Development Bank and is receiving support to take Water Access Rwanda to the next level through their Transform Fund. The company envisions having a pan-African reach to offer their innovative solutions in 12 African Countries by 2030.

Christelle graduated top of her class from High School and received scholarships to study Mechanical Engineering in the USA. In her undergraduate, Christelle researched purification of water using air-generated ozone and later graduated Magna Cum laude from the Oklahoma Christian University.

Her work in water and geophysics has also seen her train and support the development of social water businesses across the African continent. With her strong academic background and deep commitment to environmental, youth and gender issues, Christelle has managed to get the attention of development leaders and enablers who have awarded her with fellowships and awards for her various activist initiatives and advocacy efforts, notably the Resolution Fellowship, MILEAD fellowship, Sierra Club GPEP fellowship, the Princess Diana Award among others.

In her home district, she was elected to be the economic commission head in the Joint Action Development Forum. Christelle is a regular speaker and activist on the national and international stage and is involved at a high-level in keeping leaders accountable to their people, especially in promoting youth initiatives. A faithful steward, Christelle lives to see her God-given gifts multiplied through service.

Christopher Fisher

Chris Fisher is Managing Partner for Hong Kong based early stage venture capital firm, Click Ventures where he invests in highly scalable tech ventures. Within the firm he especially focuses on helping portfolio companies form strategies, grow, acquire, sell, and IPO.

Before venture capital, he spent over 20 years in corporate M&A, direct investing, and information technology strategy for leading global consumer products companies.

Since 2004 he has been an active angel investor in the USA, China, and Hong Kong with interests primarily in advertising technology, clean energy and education. In 2015 he wrote the Taiwan chapter for Angel Financing in Asia Pacific.

Chris is a founding member of Giinseng, an organisation for the promotion and advancement of impact investing in early stage businesses that create a social or environmental impact in Hong Kong and greater China.

Chris holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and London Business School. He earned a bachelor in physics with honours from Case Western Reserve University.

Cindy Chow

Cindy Chow has been the Executive Director of the Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund since 2015. Before assuming her current role, Cindy joined Alibaba Group in 2007 as the Senior Director of International Finance, focusing on financial control and planning capacity. Before joining Alibaba Group, Cindy worked at a number of Hong Kong-listed companies, specialising in financing, management reporting and planning. Cindy holds a Master of Business Administration and is a certified public accountant. She is a non-official member of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Committee on Innovation, Technology and Re-industrialisation, and volunteers for various organisations dedicated to youth development. Through different initiatives launched by the Fund and in her own capacity, Cindy aspires to help Hong Kong’s entrepreneurs and young realise their dreams in a vibrant world city.

Di Lu

Di spent the first decade of his career designing and building information solutions for some of the world’s largest companies: first with JPMorgan Chase, leading the design of global technology asset management system laying a solid foundation for private Cloud transformation; and then at Infosys Consulting, as a senior consultant focusing on enterprise architecture and Cloud strategy, provided management consultancy services across multiple industries. Di has a master’s degree in information management from Syracuse University, US.

Di joined CLP as the head of technology at CLP Innovation Enterprises based in Hong Kong. He leads a team that have built Smart Energy Connect (www.clpsec.com), which is a platform that offers end consumers, enterprises and utilities with a range of energy management solutions.

Dr Daniel Yip

Dr Yip is the Managing Director of G.E.W. International Corporation Limited (G.E.W.). With over 30 years of experience in home appliance design and manufacturing, he has successfully led the company to transform from an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) to an Original Brand Manufacturer (OBM). He further upgraded G.E.W. from majoring in home appliances to the research and development and manufacturing of commercial appliances, which won the “Hong Kong Awards for Industries: Upgrading and Transformation Awards” in 2018. Over the years, he has been maintaining close ties with local universities to jointly develop new technologies applicable on new products, making remarkable contributions to the promotion of cooperation between the government, industry, academia and research institutes.

Dr. Philip Pu Zhai

Dr. Zhai obtained a Ph.D from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom in 2000 and a bachelor’s degree in Material Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, in 1996.

Recently he has taken a role of President for Ascendent Capital Partners (Asia) Limited based in Hong Kong. Ascendent is a private equity firm focused on mid-market Greater China investment opportunities, managing capital for global renowned institutional investors including sovereign wealth funds, endowments, pensions and foundations.

He has been the Chief Executive Officer of China Alpha Fund Management (HK) Limited since July 2015. Dr. Zhai has worked in the field of investment banking as Managing Director of J.P. Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific) Limited from September 2009 to March 2015, and as Managing Director of Macquarie (Hong Kong) Limited from May 2007 to August 2009. He has over 17 years of experience in corporate development and investment banking in the Greater China market.

Besides career life, he is currently the Director of Dalton Foundation Limited in Hong Kong, the President of Xinjiang Association of Hong Kong, the Executive Vice Chairman of Chinese Financial Association of Hong Kong, the Vice President of Tsinghua Alumni Association of Hong Kong, the Vice Chairman of Tsinghua Entrepreneurs and Executive Club, and the Director of Hong Kong-ASEAN Economic Cooperation Foundation.

Felix Lee

Mr. LEE Kar Chung, Felix is an Executive Director of UMP Healthcare Holdings (722:HK). He is responsible for corporate development, international operations and merger and acquisitions. He is also a Senior Vice President of Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited,with responsibilities in making investments in the healthcare sector in Asia and globally. Mr. Lee is also an Independent Non-executive Director of China Resources Medical (1515:HK). Mr. Lee has extensive experience in law, finance and the healthcare industry. Prior to his current roles, Mr. Lee was a solicitor at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, an Analyst in the investment banking department UBS AG, Hong Kong Branch and a Director in the investment banking department of Deutsche Bank AG, Hong Kong Branch.

Mr. Lee obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. He has been a solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong since 2007. Felix is also a member of the China Committee and the Greater Bay Area Committee, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

Fion Leung is the Co-founder of Time Auction, a tech-enabled charity that encourages volunteerism with inspiring experiences.

Started as a side project in 2014, Time Auction quickly gained traction among generous donors and young adults. Francis Ngai

Francis Ngai is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Social Ventures Hong Kong (SVhk, www.sv-hk.org). He is also the Founder of Playtao Education, BottLess, HATCH co-working factory and Sonova Institute, and a Co-Founder of Green Monday and RunOurCity.

Since its establishment in 2007, SVhk has invented and incubated more than 40 social innovation projects, including Light Be (empowerment housing) and Diamond Cab (wheelchair-accessible cab service). Being an Impact Purpose Organisation, SVhk is dedicated to innovating social change through pioneering impact ventures, aggregating impact capital and providing Business 2.0 consultancy.

Prior to establishing SVhk, Francis was the Head of Strategy in a listed technology conglomerate in Hong Kong. He graduated from the City University of Hong Kong and was conferred as an Honorary Fellow by the University in 2013. Francis’ recognitions include Honorary Fellow of the Education University of Hong Kong (2018), 100 Asia Pioneers by The Purpose Economy (2014), Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum (2012), and Hong Kong’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons (2011). He also serves as Deputy Chairman of the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network.

Jack Zhang

Jason is an industry icon in Hong Kong well known for his successful entrepreneurial experience in mobile innovation. With disruptive Online-to-Offline (O2O) solutions as well as patent-pending products and technology inventions, Cherrypicks has represented Hong Kong and China on many world stages to win over 100 local and international awards. The early entrepreneurial journey of the company was also featured as a Harvard Business School case study (#N9-807-106). Jason founded Cherrypicks in 2000 and exited in 2014 and 2016 through strategic acquisitions with NetDragon Websoft Holdings Limited (HKSE: 777). Since joining the NetDragon global family, Jason is leading Cherrypicks to grow Smart City Location Intelligence, eWallet Loyalty platform and Lifelong eLearning businesses.

Jason is an industry leader and a frequent speaker at TEDx, EmTech, Google and numerous University, startup and entrepreneurship workshops.

A thought leader and well sought-after serial entrepreneur, angel investor and mentor in the startup community, Jason has invested in over 20 startups in Hong Kong, Silicon Valley, China, and France. Apart from running the Hong Kong Startup Council, Jason also serves as a mentor or venture partner at Helix Accelerator (Blockchain Hashgraph), Zeroth AI Accelerator, The Mills Fabrica, and more.

Joe Tsai

Joe Tsai is a co-founder of Alibaba Group, a global Internet technology company based in China. He is a member of board of directors of the company and serves as its executive vice chairman. His career at Alibaba Group spans over 20 years, during which he served as the company’s chief financial officer and oversaw strategic investments. He serves on the investment committees of Alibaba Group and its affiliate Ant Financial, and is a founding member of Alibaba Partnership.

Mr. Tsai owns and is the governor of the Brooklyn Nets of the NBA and the team’s arena Barclays Center. He also owns the New York Liberty of the WNBA and the San Diego Seals, a professional indoor lacrosse team in the National Lacrosse League. He has investments in the upstart Premier Lacrosse League, Los Angeles FC of Major League Soccer, and several sports media and technology companies.

In 2017, Mr. Tsai received the George H.W. Bush ‘48 Lifetime of Leadership Award from Yale University. Born and raised in Hong Kong, John emigrated to the United States when he was a Form II student at La Salle College. He continued his education at Stuyvesant High School in New York City, and studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He went on to complete master degrees in Bilingual Education at Boston State College and in Public Administration at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He worked in the Boston Public Schools as a teacher and in curriculum development. John returned to work as an Administrative Officer in the Hong Kong Government in 1982. He took up a number of posts relating to commerce and finance. After reunification, he was appointed as Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Secretary for Planning and Lands, Secretary for Commerce, Innovation and Technology, Director of the Chief Executive’s Office and in 2007, Financial Secretary where he served until 2017. He ran for the post of Chief Executive and lost.

John is currently engaged in a number of diverse activities. He is the Founder of Esperanza, a non-profit organisation, the Vice Chairman of Ion Pacific, a financial institution that specialises in technology investments, the Senior Advisor of Bowtie, a virtual insurance company, the host of a weekly music program on Commercial Radio and the fencing coach of La Salle College.

John is married with two grown children and three grand-children.

Jonathan Wong

US born Jonathan Wong is a singer-songwriter, dancer-choreographer, and actor. Graduating from Cornell University with double majors in Psychology and Modern Dance in 2008, Jonathan made his Hong Kong musical debut in 2009 and has since then earned over 50 major awards in a number of categories for his work.

In 2016, Jonathan competed in the world’s largest televised singer-songwriter competition “Sing My Song”, broadcast on China’s CCTV-3. He joined Chinese R&B legend David Tao’s squad and was the only Hong Kong representative to make it into the top 6 of his team. In the same year, his composition“Beyond Borders”for Chinese pop diva Karen Mok gathered more than 35 million views online. Some of his other writing credits include Sammi Zheng and Chinese boy band XNINE.

Jonathan is also a prolific actor in film and television. In "The Limelight Years" (2015), Jonathan plays an exceptionally gifted musician driven to the edge of his sanity, earning him his first "Best Supporting Actor in a Television Drama" nomination. Jonathan then went on to star in TVB’s “OMG, Your Honour” (2018) as well as “Wonder Women” (2019) and “Airport Strikers” (2020). He has also played major supporting roles in Johnnie To’s critically acclaimed thriller "Three" (2016), “The House of the Rising Sons” (2018) and “Dynasty Warriors” (2019).

Jonathan is fresh off the critically acclaimed Matteo Ricci (2019), an original theatrical musical in which he plays the title role, Italian priest Matteo Ricci, the first westerner to enter the Forbidden City and be buried on Chinese soil. The 20 sold-out shows were exceptionally well-received, earning the production invitations to tour in various countries.

Savio Kwan

Mr. Savio Kwan was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Alibaba Group from 2001 to 2003 and served as Chief People Officer for the year 2004 before stepping down from full-time executive duties and was formerly the Independent Non Executive Director at Alibaba.com since 2008, the listed B2B unit of Alibaba Group, until the company has been privatized in June 2012. During his time at Alibaba, Mr. Kwan saw the company transformed from an internet start-up with just over 150 staffs burning close to US$2M per month into one of the world’s biggest B2B Company with over 2,500 staffs generating over US$5M surplus cash per month.

Mr. Kwan, has 30 years of global management experience, including seventeen years at General Electric and four years as the Managing Director of the China operations of BTR plc, a UK-based Fortune 500 company. Mr. Kwan also served as a board member of the Asia Pacific Advisory Board of York International, a leading global air conditioning system provider and a unit of Johnson Control listed in the New York Stock Exchange.

Mr. Kwan's career includes 17 years of high-level management at General Electric Medical Systems where he had responsibilities for sales, marketing, operations, business development, and establishment of joint venture companies in Asia. Among his accomplishments at GE, Mr. Kwan grew the China Medical business from zero revenues to US$70 million revenues in less than 4 years.

At BTR, Mr. Kwan was Managing Director for the China operations of 8 manufacturing subsidiaries with some US$150M sales which he built through merger and acquisitions in the space of under three years.

In 2005 Mr. Kwan co-founded A & K Consulting with Malcolm Au and serves in the capacity of Partner and CEO. He is also a Visiting Executive Professor of Henley Business School, a unit of Reading University in the UK. He also won the Alumni Achievement Award of the London Business School in 2011.

In January 2014, Mr. Kwan joined the main board of British American Tobacco Group as Non Executive Director.

Mr. Kwan was born in Hong Kong and is a UK national. He pursued an undergraduate diploma at Cambridgeshire College of Technology and received Master of Science degrees from both the London Business School and Loughborough University in the UK.

Syaru Shirley Lin is Compton Visiting Professor in World Politics at the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia. She also teaches at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, in both the master’s program in global political economy in Hong Kong and the Tsinghua-CUHK FMBA program in Shenzhen and Beijing.

She was the youngest woman partner as well as the one of the first Asian partners of Goldman Sachs & Co., where she led the firm’s investment efforts in Asia, managing investments in twelve countries and setting up the Tokyo operation. Most notably, she spearheaded the firm’s investments in technology start-ups in Asia, making it one of the earliest and most successful investors in China. In that capacity, she led the first round of institutional investment in Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation and Alibaba, immediately after it was registered in 1999. She was also an early investor in Sina and in start-ups that were acquired by Sohu and E Ink. Prior to her work in private equity and venture capital, she specialized in the privatization of state-owned enterprises including China Southern Airlines and Singapore Telecom.

Shirley has served on the boards of numerous private and public companies and currently serves as a director of Goldman Sachs Asia Bank, Langham Hospitality Investments, Mercuries Life Insurance and Swire Pacific Limited, and is a Senior Advisor to Crestview Partners, a private equity fund based in New York. Appointed by the Hong Kong government, she serves on the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation and is also a director of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, which supports the development and adoption of new therapeutic medical technologies.

Shirley graduated, cum laude, from Harvard College and has also studied at Keio University in Tokyo and Complutense University of Madrid. After retiring from Goldman Sachs, she earned her masters and Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong. Her teaching and research examine issues in international and comparative political economy. Her book on Taiwan’s cross-strait economic policy was published by Stanford University Press and by Business Weekly in traditional Chinese in 2019 and is being published in simplified Chinese in 2020. She is currently writing a book on the challenges facing high-income economies in Asia. Her analysis and commentary frequently appear in English and Chinese media.
